Zero to App

Plan. Build. Launch.

A practical guide for Planning, Building and Launching your First App
Mizu Light

From repo to real product

Knowing how to code isn’t the same as knowing how to ship. Follow a practical path to set up accounts, tooling, data, and architecture without losing momentum.

End-to-end product build roadmap

Validate before you build

Skip the “vague inspiration” trap. Get a clear problem, a real person, and a tight MVP scope plus a fast competitor scan so you know exactly how you’re different.

End-to-end product build roadmap

Launch with confidence, not crossed fingers

Build quality in from day one: practical testing, analytics that actually answer questions, and production-ready logging + crash reporting. Spot the issues before they hit users and ship updates fast when they do.

Ship faster with a proven submission flow

Checklists built to prevent common submission mistakes so you ship sooner. Cover assets, permissions, testing, and the details reviewers care about.

How it works

Start with clarity, not code

Phase 1 - Planning & Validation

Define the problem, the person, and the promise before you create a repo. You’ll write a crisp value proposition, scope a realistic MVP, and pick success metrics that keep you honest.

Then do a fast competitor scan and lightweight validation (mockups + waitlist) so you can say: “We’re different because ___, for ___.”

Planning and validation

Set up the boring stuff once: the right way

Phase II — Initial Project Setup

Avoid the setup spiral. Get naming, accounts, repo structure, environments, and your baseline backend in place without losing momentum.

This part gives you a clean foundation so every next step is faster: fewer rebuilds, fewer surprises, and fewer “we’ll fix it later” compromises.

Project setup and foundations

Build the core flows in the right order

Phase III — Architecture & Core Development

Stop building random screens. Translate mockups into a sequence of small, shippable milestones that follow real user journeys.

Choose architecture that fits the moment, design your data intentionally, implement the flows users actually need and iterate with confidence.

Core development and architecture

Make it resilient before users find the cracks

Phase IV — Quality & Reliability

Ship in iterations with a reliability baseline: testing that matters, analytics that answer questions, and logging + crash reporting you’ll thank yourself for later.

This is how you avoid “it worked on my machine” launches and how you ship fixes fast when reality hits.

Testing, analytics and reliability

Ship with checklists that prevent delays

Phase V — Deployment & Distribution

Go from “almost ready” to shipped with a repeatable release flow: build profiles, internal testing, store assets, permissions, and submission steps.

No last-minute chaos. Just a clean, predictable checklist you can follow every time you release.

Who is this book for?

Zero to App is written for software engineers (and technical builders) who can code, but want a clear, practical path to planning, building, and shipping a real product, without getting stuck in endless research or overbuilding.

Is it beginner-friendly?

Yes: especially if you’ve built projects before but haven’t shipped a full product end-to-end. The book avoids fluff and walks you through the real sequence: validation, setup, core development, quality/reliability, and distribution.

How do the Notion checklists work?

Each section includes actionable checklists you can follow as you build. You can copy them into Notion (or your tool of choice) and use them as your “what to do next” system, so you’re never guessing which step matters most.

Do I have to read it in order?

Not at all. You can follow it start-to-finish if you’re beginning from scratch, or jump directly to the stage you’re in right now (setup, core flows, testing, store submission, etc.). It’s designed to work as a reference playbook.

What will I have at the end?

You’ll have a validated idea, a scoped MVP, a build plan, and a product you can confidently ship—plus a repeatable process you can reuse for your next app. The goal is progress you can show, not theory you forget.
